The High Court sets February 25 to hear Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s application to strike out a legal challenge to his appointment and parliamentary seat.
KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court here has set February 25 for the hearing of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s application to strike out an originating summons filed by former minister P. Waytha Moorthy.
Judge Alice Loke Yee Ching fixed the date during a case management on Monday.
Lawyer S. Karthigesan represented Waytha Moorthy, while lawyers Daniel Albert and Nicholas Yap represented Anwar.
Federal Counsel Mohammad Sallehuddin Md Ali from the Attorney-General’s Chambers was also present as amicus curiae.
Daniel Albert informed the court that Anwar’s lead counsel, Ranjit Singh, was unable to attend due to health issues.
Karthigesan told the court his client, a legal practitioner, had applied to act as co-counsel in the case.
Anwar filed the striking out application on October 10 last year.
He argued the summons contravened procedural and constitutional requirements for challenging election results.
The Prime Minister said the summons was baseless and an abuse of the court process.
Waytha Moorthy filed the originating summons on August 12, 2025.
He sought declarations that Anwar’s appointment as Prime Minister on November 24, 2022, was unconstitutional.
The Hindraf chairman also sought to nullify Anwar’s election as the Tambun MP.
The Attorney-General’s Chambers stated on August 14, 2025, that there was no issue with Anwar’s eligibility.
This followed the Order of Pardon by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
The AGC said any challenge should be made via an election petition as stipulated by law.
