
Kota Kinabalu: Highland FC from Kundasang emerged as the champions of the Sabah Open 6-A-Side Football Tournament held at the Kundasang Town Field recently.
They defeated Quantum Kickers from Kota Marudu 2-1 in the final to claim the title. Bos Bundle from Kota Kinabalu took third place and in fourth place was Sinarut from Ranau.
Highland FC’s Sadam Yusuf was also named the best player and teammate Leopold Alfonso Otong took the golden boot with 11 goals, while the best goalkeeper award went to Yusriadi Muhammad from Quantum Kickers.
A total of 31 teams from all over Sabah participated in the two-day tournament organised by Kundasang Town Youth Club (KBPK).
Organising chairman Azizul Aslie hoped the tournament would continue as an annual event following the success in their efforts to search for new talents, and he requested for an upgrade to the pitch with better facilities.
He also expressed his gratitude to Ranau’s Member of Parliament Datuk Jonathan Yasin for the cash prize donation and thanked all the teams and officials, the Ranau District Council (MDR), as well as Puncak Homestay, Kopisangan Cafe and others for their support and cooperation.
