Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu today said providing modern civic amenities and ensuring planned urban development remain key priorities of the government. He today inaugurated a Rs 7.6-crore multi-storeyed car parking facility near Auckland tunnel, having a parking capacity of 145 vehicles.
The Chief Minister emphasised that improving traffic management and creating adequate public infrastructure remains the priority of the state government. This parking slot would help decongest major roads in and around the Auckland tunnel area besides reducing roadside parking and facilitating smooth vehicular movement, he stated.
Sukhu said that the state government was undertaking various infrastructure initiatives aimed at making the state capital more accessible, organised and commuter-friendly. “The rapid increase in the number of vehicles has posed considerable challenges to traffic regulation and parking management, especially during the peak tourist season,” he added.
The CM said the state government was pursuing a comprehensive approach towards urban development, focusing on sustainable infrastructure, efficient public services and improved quality of life for citizens. He reiterated the government’s resolve to create modern facilities that cater to the needs of both residents and the large number of tourists visiting Shimla throughout the year.
Public Works Minister Vikramaditya Singh, MLA Harish Janartha, Mayor Surender Chauhan, Deputy Mayor Uma Kaushal, councillors and other prominent persons were also present on the occasion.
