Aiming to unite people, especially youth, in the fight against drug abuse and to promote environmental consciousness, fitness and social responsibility, the Himachal Pradesh Police are set to organise an “Anti-Chitta & Clean Environment Awareness Mini Marathon 2026” on June 5 (World Environment Day) in Shimla.
The 10 km mini marathon will be flagged off from The Ridge in which senior officers of administration, Himachal Pradesh Police, public representatives, educational institutions, sports organisations, volunteers, and environmental groups will take part. The event will also feature a 3 km dream run.
Speaking about the marathon, Director General of Police (DGP) Ashok Tewari said that this year, the police have linked the campaign to the growing need to combat substance abuse and create a healthier society. “The event is being jointly organised by the police and the Department of Environment, Science, Technology and Climate Change as part of a broader campaign for social awareness, youth engagement and community participation,” said the DGP.
“In line with the directions of the state government, the marathon is being organised to spread awareness among youth and the people against the growing menace of drug abuse, particularly ‘chitta’ while simultaneously promoting the importance of a clean and healthy environment. With this event, police aim to safeguard the future of youth and strengthen social awareness through public participation” he said.
He also appealed to students, youth, sports lovers, educational institutions, social organisations and members of the public to participate enthusiastically and strengthen the collective mission of building a clean, safe, healthy and drug-free Himachal Pradesh.
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has appreciated the initiative and said, “The youth of Himachal Pradesh are the strength and future of our state.
