As many as 237 candidates have withdrawn their nomination from the elections to 51 urban local bodies, including four Municipal Corporations. Now, there are 1,147 candidates in the fray. The polling will be held on May 17.

To begin with, 1426 candidates had filed the nomination papers. As many as 32 nominations were rejected during scrutiny on various grounds, while 237 have withdrawn their candidature. Besides, 10 candidates have been elected unopposed. All 10 candidates elected unopposed were in the fray for Nagar panchayat elections. These include one each from Nagar Panchayat Karsog (Chamba), Jwalamukhi (Kangra), Banjar (Kullu), Karsog (Mandi), Riwalsar (Mandi), Chirgaon (Shimla). As many as four candidates have been elected unopposed in Nerwa Nagar Panchayat (Shimla).

Besides, no nomination has been filed from Ward No.7 of Karsog nagar panchayat in Mandi.
