Revenue and Horticulture Minister Jagat Singh Negi said on Wednesday a land policy for small and marginal farmers occupying forest land will be placed before the state Cabinet for consideration and approval.

Negi chaired a meeting of the Cabinet sub-committee constituted to examine the issue of regularisation of forest land under occupation by small and marginal farmers. Education Minister Rohit Thakur was also present at the meeting.

The committee was informed that, in accordance with directions of the Supreme Court, a policy framework has been prepared for the regularisation of land occupation by small and marginal farmers.

After detailed deliberations, the committee decided that the proposed policy would now be placed before the state Cabinet for consideration and approval. Following Cabinet clearance, the policy will be forwarded to the Government of India for further necessary action, Negi said.

The minister said the initiative aims to provide relief to small and marginal farmers by addressing issues related to land occupation in a structured and legally compliant manner, in line with the Supreme Court’s directions.

Principal Secretary (Law) Rajeev Bali, Additional Secretary (Revenue) Anil Chauhan and senior officials of the Forest Department were present at the meeting.
