The UT Administration may frame a land pooling policy on the lines of Punjab and Haryana.

Senior BJP leaders reportedly spoke to UT Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria about the policy. Following an assurance from him, the party posted on its social media account that a land pooling policy will be formed soon. Under the policy, farmers’ land will be pooled for development projects.

A draft policy will be framed after taking opinion of farmers from 22 villages in the UT. For this, committees of farmers will be formed in each village, who will submit their suggestions and objections to the Administration.

The draft will be sent to the Ministry of Home Affairs for approval. After getting its approval, further action will be taken towards implementing the policy.

Earlier, the UT Administration had rejected the implementation of a land pooling policy as only about 2,500 acres of land was vacant, most of which was designated for green spaces or residential development under the Master Plan.

Farmers from 22 villages have been demanding a land pooling policy. They stated that even as all villages were brought under the jurisdiction of the Municipal Corporation, neither a land pooling policy nor a change in land use policy had been framed for farmland.

“If a land pooling policy is implemented, the Lal Dora scheme will be abolished, and a planned development will be ensured,” said Satinderpal Singh Sidhu, president, Pendu Vikas Manch.
