- Ruthin School, a 742-year-old independent boarding school in Denbighshire, north Wales, has been put up for sale with a guide price of £5 million following its sudden closure due to financial pressures.
- The 201-pupil co-educational school, which counts John Lennon’s son Julian among its notable alumni, unexpectedly shut down on the final day of the summer term in July.
- The closure occurred just a year after the historic institution was acquired in 2023 by Chinese firm Galaxy Global Education, which also closed another private school in Worcestershire earlier this year.
- Property surveyor Sanderson Weatherall is marketing the historic estate on behalf of joint administrators at FRP Advisory, describing the sale as a rare opportunity for educational legacy or alternative development.
- The extensive site features a Grade II listed main building dating from the 1850s, a 30-bed town centre boarding house, sports facilities, and more than 42 acres of land including 24 acres of agricultural space.
