Kota Kinabalu: A 40-year-old Penang-born man has made history by scaling Mount Kinabalu in full traditional Punjabi attire, a feat rarely attempted due to the outfit’s impracticality for strenuous activities.

Jesmesh Singh, fondly known as JJ, took on the challenge wearing a kurta and salwar—cotton garments typically reserved for ceremonies, prayers, and weddings in Sikh culture.

The climb posed significant difficulty, as the attire is not designed for high-altitude conditions or physically demanding environments, making the journey even more challenging.

Driven by cultural pride, Jesmesh said his goal was not only to test his limits but also to showcase his heritage while attempting to earn recognition in the Malaysia Book of Records.

He began his ascent on March 13 and completed the descent on March 14, successfully achieving his goal and qualifying for a record entry.

According to hikingadventuresmalaysia in Instagram, this also marks his fifth successful ascent of Mount Kinabalu, making this climb deeply meaningful as he dedicates it to his cultural roots.

Despite the tough conditions and challenges of high altitude, he completed this victory climb with discipline, resilience, and safety as a top priority.
