Hit-and-run incident leads to QCPD officer's arrest

A QUEZON CITY Police District (QCPD) officer was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly being involved in a hit-and-run incident on C5 Road in Pasig City, injuring a civilian motorcycle rider.

The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) said the suspect, a police staff sergeant assigned to the QCPD District Mobile Force Battalion, allegedly forced and pushed the rider off the road at around 7 a.m. on Wednesday, May 13, while riding a red-and-black Yamaha motorcycle before fleeing the scene without helping the victim.

A video of the incident later circulated on social media, along with a message from victim Vincent Cayanes, who was appealing for help in identifying the officer.

“Hi everyone, can you please help me trace this police officer. Already filed case/report at PNP Camp Crame,” Cayanes said on his post.

Following the post, retired police Col. Bonifacio Laqui Bosita also called for swift action against the policeman involved, saying abusive acts within the police organization should not be tolerated.

The QCPD conducted hot pursuit operations that led to the arrest of the officer, who is now under custody and facing criminal and administrative investigations.

NCRPO chief Anthony Aberin said no police officer is exempt from accountability, stressing that charges will be filed in accordance with National Police Commission rules and PNP standards of conduct.
