HCMC is the largest financial centre in Vietnam, responsible for contributing about 20% of the national GDP. Last year, it was named Asia's Leading MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences & Exhibitions). With a long history of economic & cultural importance, it is both relevant as a hub for business and appealing as an exciting cultural & arts destination.
I understand from Vietnam's General Statistics Office (GSO) that HCMC Metropolitan area hosts a population of over 20 million, out of which 16 million reside in the urban areas. 51.2 million workers aged 15 & older are employed in the service sector that makes up 38.7% of jobs, followed by industry & construction (33.5%) & agroforestry-fishery (27.8%)
According to our tour consultant Amin of Aminn Travel, “This year we welcomed more than 6 million foreign and 35 million domestic tourists. HCMC is planning to use about 200 electric cars to transport tourists around downtown. Under this project, each car can carry 5-14 passengers, with a maximum speed of 30km per hour for tours around the city. In 2024, the city has initiated collaborative tourism development programs with six regions and 46 provinces & cities, with a focus on building linked products, which incorporate a minimum stay of two days in the city & implementing #D/360 technology applications to promote destinations with its countryside travel partners."
