Punjab Hockey president Nitin Kohli and Hockey India official Vikram inspected Olympian Balbir Singh Hockey Stadium in Sector 63 to assess the infrastructure needed to host the men’s Asian Champions Trophy there.

The inspection was carried out on the directions of Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann, who had recently taken stock of the works related to the championship.

He had directed that the works be undertaken in accordance with the recommendations submitted by Hockey India.

Olympian Balbir Singh Hockey Stadium is currently being renovated at Rs 15 crore as part of the preparations for the tournament.

During the inspection, detailed discussions were held regarding the proposed development works, technical requirements and timelines for execution.

The inspection team reviewed the estimates prepared by the departments concerned and identified areas where revisions and enhancements would be required to ensure compliance with the Hockey India guidelines.

Kohli, who is also the vice-president of Hockey India, stressed the importance of a close coordination among all departments to ensure timely completion of the required works.

He said every effort was being made to provide world-class facilities and create an international-standard venue that reflected Punjab’s rich legacy in hockey.

Vikram from Hockey India shared valuable inputs regarding the venue requirements and infrastructure standards expected for the tournament.

It was also highlighted during the inspection that the stadium was proposed to host the opening and closing matches of the tournament, making the timely completion of all infrastructure upgrades a matter of special importance.
