Home Minister, Datuk Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, has shared how victims of the gas pipeline explosion in Putra Heights are facing difficulties finding homes to rent as landlords charge up to 3 months’ deposit.
According to a report by Kosmo, he said that the high deposit requirements are seen to be further complicating the situation for the victims.
“Most of the victims are still trying to find a place to stay, and some of them, when they find a place (to rent), they’ll have to deal with a landlord, and the landlord charges a deposit of up to 2 or 3 months,”
“The government has offered assistance, but there are landlords who still charge (high deposits), which complicates their situation,” he explained.
Previously, the Selangor Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, had announced that the state government agreed to cover the rental costs for affected owners and tenants, involving a total of RM7.356 million.
This means that the state government will provide RM2,000 to each affected homeowner and tenant, for 6 months.
