TAWAU: A house and three vehicles were completely destroyed in a fire that broke out in a residential area at Batu 8, Jalan Sin On Tiku here early Monday.

The blaze, which gutted a wooden house, is believed to have started around 4am and no casualties were reported.

However, three vehicles parked at the scene – a Proton Persona, Proton Saga and motorcycle – were completely destroyed as there was no time to move them.

According to a statement from the Sabah Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), an emergency call from the public was received at 4.03am.

A total of 14 firefighters from the Tawau Fire and Rescue Station (BBP), led by Senior Fire Officer I Roslie Suyut, were deployed to the scene.

Firefighters arrived at the location at 4.20am with two fire engines and an Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) vehicle.

They used one hose line and another 200-foot line with two jets drawing water from the fire engines and a nearby hydrant to extinguish the flames.

The operation ended at 6.41am after the firefighters were satisfied with the safety level at the site and confirmed there was no further risk.
