A local man was found lying motionless at a recreational park in Kedah yesterday morning (Sept 23) by parkgoers.
According to China Press, the victim was 55-year-old Wang De An (transliteration), a homeless man who reportedly had been staying around the park since the start of this year.
An emergency call via MERS 999 was made at around 9.20am when an Alor Setar City Council cleaner found Wang and subsequently notified his supervisor.
Wounds found on body
Kota Setar district police chief Assistant Commissioner (ACP) Syed Basri Syed Ali said in a statement that when police arrived at the scene, they found Wang lying underneath a gazebo.
Medical personnel later pronounced him dead and estimated that he had died between 6am and 9.20am.
Multiple injuries were also found on Wang’s body, including wounds beneath his chin and on his neck, bruising on the left side of his head and around both eyes, bleeding from his left ear, and a small wound on the right side of his chin.
Two broken pieces of wooden sticks were discovered, as well as wood fragments on the gazebo’s seating area. However, police found no obvious signs of a struggle or dragging.
No suspects have been arrested thus far and police are working to determine the motive for Wang’s death.
The case is now being probed under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
