Keylong SDM Kunika Akers inspects a homestay in Lahaul on Monday.

To ensure the effective implementation of the newly notified homestay rules, officials of the Lahaul and Spiti district administration carried out inspections of registered homestay units across various areas of the Lahaul subdivision.

The inspection drive was conducted under the leadership of Sub-Divisional Magistrate (Civil) and District Tourism Development Officer, Keylong, Kunika Akers, in the presence of officials and staff from the Tourism Department.

Providing details about the inspection, Kunika said the initiative was aimed at ensuring strict compliance with the provisions, standards, and operational guidelines prescribed under the new homestay rules notified by the state government.

During the inspection, the team carried out a detailed assessment of various mandatory requirements and facilities in the homestay units. Special attention was given to cleanliness and hygiene standards, maintenance of visitor records and mandatory registers, fire safety arrangements and other security measures.

The officials also verified the display of mandatory information boards, availability of basic amenities for tourists, waste management systems and compliance with other essential standards outlined in the notified rules.

On the occasion, homestay operators were sensitised about the provisions of the new policy and were instructed to ensure complete adherence to the prescribed standards in order to provide tourists with safe, clean and quality accommodation facilities.

The authorities concerned further said that homestay units where deficiencies were observed have been directed to carry out the necessary improvements within a stipulated timeframe.

Kunika said such inspections would continue in the future to ensure that tourism activities in the Lahaul region remain organised, safe and tourist-friendly. She added that the administration was committed to the effective implementation of the state government’s tourism policies while promoting responsible and sustainable tourism in the region.
