The new Honda City Hatchback enters production in Pegoh, Melaka.
Honda Malaysia has begun assembly and released the first production units of the New Honda City Hatchback at its Pegoh, Melaka facility. This milestone points toward the upcoming market launch and customer deliveries of the refreshed B-segment hatchback across Malaysian showrooms, extending the momentum from the recently updated New City Sedan. His Excellency Shikata Noriyuki, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Malaysia, attended the official line-off alongside senior executives. This diplomatic presence underscores Honda’s lasting role in the economic ties between Malaysia and Japan, showing how Japanese manufacturing methods continue to merge with local supply networks.

Strengthening Domestic Assembly and Local Supplier Networks
Since Honda Malaysia opened its own plant in Melaka in 2003, the site has anchored local operations. Discussing the milestone, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Narushi Yazaki noted that the rollout reflects a commitment to local production, ongoing innovation, and sustainable growth guided by the Challenging Spirit philosophy. Ambassador Shikata Noriyuki praised the work, pointing to Honda’s continued focus on localization through a blend of Japanese standards and Malaysian engineering talent alongside homegrown Tier-1 and Tier-2 suppliers. Today, Honda Malaysia works with about 500 domestic partners. Across the factory, dealership network, and supply lines, the broader ecosystem involves nearly 20,000 associates nationwide.

A Proven Hit: Over 51,000 Units Sold in Malaysia
Since its initial local launch in late 2021 as a versatile five-door alternative to the Jazz, the City Hatchback has anchored the brand’s sales, with over 51,000 units delivered in Malaysia. The revised model’s upcoming showroom appearance aims to sustain this strong position. The refreshed compact retains its utility through Honda’s ULTRA Seats, allowing drivers to adjust the rear bench into Utility, Long, Tall, and Refresh modes for bulky items that standard small hatchbacks often cannot hold. Combined with a sharper front design, an upgraded floating 10-inch infotainment screen, a 360-degree camera system, and the optional 1.5L e:HEV dual-motor hybrid powertrain, the locally assembled New City Hatchback is ready to appeal to young professionals and daily commuters seeking flexible, low-emission travel.
