Hosting football championship a great honour for Sabah

Kota Kinabalu: The ongoing 6th National Chinese Independent Secondary School Football Championship hosted by Sabah Tshung Tsin Secondary School here is set to contribute significantly to human capital development and local economies.

Youth Development, Sports Advancement and Creative Economy Minister Datuk Nizam Titingan said at the welcoming dinner on Wednesday that the championship is more than a sporting event as it not only brings together young athletes but also stimulates various sectors including tourism, accommodation, and services.

“The presence of all the ladies and gentlemen here not only enlivened this championship, but it also brought a spirit of friendship, unity and sportsmanship meaningful to our State.

“Hosting this championship is a great honour and in line with the spirit of Sabah, which is the spirit of openness, brotherhood and unity.

“We also see sports as a broad ecosystem. It is not only related to competitions, medals or victories, but also related to the development of human capital, community health, social unity, talent development and local economic growth.

“That is why organising tournaments like this is very important. It opens up space for students to showcase their talents, test their abilities and gain new experiences. At the same time, it also provides benefits to other sectors such as tourism, accommodation, food, transportation, services and the local economy,” he said.

The Minister also expressed his appreciation to all those involved including the sponsors in their effort and support to ensure the success of the annual event.

Meanwhile, a total of 11 teams throughout the country are taking part in the five-day competition starting on Monday and the final is scheduled today (Friday) at the Likas Stadium.
