Hosts Sandakan bag seven titles to emerge top in first leg

Kota Kinabalu: Hosts Sandakan came top in the first leg of the Sabah Junior Tennis competition which concluded on Saturday (Feb 15).

They took home seven titles through Leong Shu Qi (18U girls’ singles), Shawn Alfie Silvester (16U boys’ singles), Mohd Faziezan Azief Rohjan and Chua Jiu Ek (14U boys’ doubles), Chua Jiu Ngan (12U boys’ singles and doubles), Sandra Allysa Silvester (12U girls’ singles and doubles).

AdvertisementIn second place were Kota Kinabalu with six titles contributed by Rus Zareef Hazmy Rus Hilmy (U18 boys’ singles and doubles), Nathan Micheal Guansing and Isaac Chong Xin Yu (14U boys’ doubles), Timaben Imaan Stephen Abeng (14U boys’ singles), Christian Lee (12U boys’ doubles), Nur Sophia Isabella Syaiful (12U girls’ doubles) and Lewis Wong Xin Heng (10U boys’ singles).

Tawau took third spot with three titles from Mohd Farish Danial Kasdi (18U boys’ doubles), Nurbatrisya Kasdi (16U girls’ doubles), Isa Eshan Normansyah and Ahmad Hail Amin Tawakkal (10U boys’ doubles).

A total of 70 players took part in the three-day competition and the prizes were presented by main sponsor Syarikat Tira’s manager Ahmad Takbir.

AdvertisementSabah Tennis Association president Johnson Koh Yong Siang congratulated all the winners and hoped all the players continue to train for the next leg in Keningau scheduled in June.

He also expressed his appreciation to Syarikat Tira for the sponsorship and Sandakan District Tennis Association president Silvester Lawai and his competition committee for their hard work as well as all the coaches and parents for their support.
