A man suffered burns and a hotel restaurant was destroyed in a Semporna fire, with 20% of the nearby hotel building also damaged.
SEMPORNA: A man suffered burns to his arm while a hotel restaurant here was completely destroyed in a fire this afternoon.
Semporna Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) chief Zainal Sinsian said the victim was taken to Semporna Hospital by the hotel management for treatment, while the fire also damaged about 20 per cent of a nearby hotel building due to heat from the flames.
“Upon arrival at the location, the hotel restaurant was on fire and was completely destroyed, while a nearby hotel building was also 20 per cent damaged due to heat from the flames,” he said in a statement today.
Zainal said the fire was brought under control within about an hour after firefighters conducted operations from both land and sea to prevent it from spreading.
He said the station received an emergency call at 12.47 pm and arrived at the location at 12.52 pm, with 29 personnel, including 10 from its water firefighting unit, involved in the operation.
The operation ended at 4.11 pm, while the cause of the fire and estimated losses were still under investigation, he added.
