
Kota Kinabalu: A 31-year-old man was fined RM4,000 or jailed a month by the Magistrate’s Court here Tuesday for obstructing a police officer from carrying out his duty.
Muhd Nazmi Nasiruddin, a hotel worker, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Wan Farrah Farriza Wan Ghazali to committing the offence against Inspector Ezaly Nadzir on Feb 6, this year, at 10.30am, by the roadside of Wisma Budaya, Asia City, here.

The prosecution, in presenting the facts of the case, informed the court that on the said day, Nazmi was stopped for screening by a police task force team due to his suspicious behaviour.

Read more However, Nazmi resisted and acted provocatively towards the complainant and his team, despite the complainant identifying himself as a police officer and displaying his police authority card.
Nazmi refused to cooperate and shouted that there were robbers impersonating police officers, even after being instructed to comply.

A urine test conducted on Nazmi returned negative results.

In another case, a 46-year-old man was sentenced to six months’ jail for cheating a hotel worker of RM602.14 over a hotel room rental, last year.
Tan Kok Kwang pleaded guilty before Magistrate Marilyn Kelvin to deceiving the hotel staff into believing that he could make the payment of RM602.14 for a hotel room rental despite knowing it was not true.
The charge under Section 417 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to five years or fine or both, on conviction.
The facts presented by the prosecution stated that Tan, who was found to have discreetly checked out of a room, was contacted by the complainant for payment.
Tan initially promised to settle the payment but, as of the time the police report was lodged, had failed to do so, providing various excuses.
Counsel Lim Ming Zoong @ Lawrence representing Tan requested a lenient sentence.
The prosecution applied for a deterrent sentence.
The court ordered Tan to serve the sentence from the date of his arrest.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Muhammad Haikal Hazwan Md Yatin and Inspector Yusdi Basri prosecuted.
