
BEAUFORT: A man and his sister were arrested on suspicion of being involved in a number of housebreaking and trespassing cases here and in Kota Kinabalu.
The siblings were picked up in separate raids on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Beaufort District Police Chief DSP Ismail Abdullah said initial investigations revealed that the two were also implicated in burglary case reported in the district last Nov 5.
They are suspected of being responsible for a total of RM78,000 in cash losses in burglary incidents.
“Early investigations found that they would deposit the earnings from their housebreaking spree into several bank accounts belonging to their family members,” he said, Sunday.
He said that the woman is suspected of being the owner of a bank account used to deposit the earnings and that a total of RM30,320 in cash was recovered to facilitate police investigations.
The woman is being held at the Beaufort police headquarters, while her brother is detained at the Kota Kinabalu police headquarters for investigations into a house break-in in Kota Kinabalu.
