KOTA MARUDU: A 40-year-old local housewife suffered serious injuries after she was allegedly attacked with a machete by her husband in front of their home in Kampung Mangkupa on Thursday, with jealousy believed to have been the motive.
District police chief Supt Simiun Lomudin said the 50-year-old non-Malaysian suspect, identified as Sius, was arrested later the same night and is being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt with a weapon.
Initial investigations found the incident occurred at about 8.30am after the suspect confronted the victim for allegedly speaking to male neighbours, leading to an argument before he allegedly fetched a machete from the kitchen and attacked her outside the house.
A witness, who is the victim's nephew, reportedly saw the suspect pin the victim to the ground and place the machete against her neck before hiding with the couple's children, while the suspect fled after seeing the victim covered in blood, and a neighbour who found her alerted the authorities through the 999 emergency line.
The victim, who sustained 14 wounds measuring between 3.5cm and 9cm, is in stable condition after receiving treatment at Kota Marudu Hospital and will be referred to Queen Elizabeth Hospital I in Kota Kinabalu, while police said she told investigators the suspect had frequently accused her of having affairs with male neighbours despite her denials during their 19-year customary marriage, which produced six children.
