The Houston Rockets have mocked the BBC for an embarrassing mistake during their World Cup 2026 coverage.
The BBC have broadcast the United States’ second World Cup match against Australia on Friday.
The presenter and pundits previewed the game in a studio with a green screen behind them, showcasing the Houston skyline.
This was already an unusual choice, given that the USA vs Australia game took place at Seattle’s Lumen Field.
However, the BBC made an embarrassing mistake that soon went viral among football fans on social media.

Why the Houston Rockets took issue with the BBC’s World Cup coverage
The BBC inexplicably added mountains to the background of the Houston skyline on their green screen.
X user Reed Wilburn noticed the BBC’s strange decision and shared his thoughts on the social media platform.
“The BBC adding mountains to the green screen background of Houston is one of the most dubious things I’ve ever seen,” Wilburn posted.
The Houston Rockets’ official account then mocked the BBC with their own edited version of the Houston skyline.
“Just another beautiful day in the Houston Alps,” they wrote, as the image featured a mountain range.
It was not the first time that the BBC’s World Cup coverage has been criticised recently.
Many viewers have already criticised them for using a green screen, while their rivals, ITV, are based in New York.
The ITV presenters and pundits can be seen in a picturesque apartment with the New York skyline in the background.
It is safe to say that the BBC have certainly underwhelmed with their coverage of the tournament so far.
