Lionel Messi’s first game at the 2026 World Cup in North America saw the Argentine take one step towards history.

Argentina and Algeria faced off in a Group J clash, with the spotlight very much on Messi in what could well be his final ever World Cup.

The Inter Miami attacker did not disappoint on the night, scoring himself a hat-trick to win the game 3-0, and his country’s fans responded by taking over the Arrowhead Stadium post-game.

Argentina fans take over Arrowhead Stadium after Lionel Messi’s hat-trick vs Algeria

Arrowhead, which is currently known as Kansas City Stadium for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, normally hosts American football (not soccer) games, and is the hunting ground of Patrick Mahomes.

However, it was Messi’s time to shine this week, and he scored three times to cement himself as the joint-top all-time goalscorer at World Cups alongside former German striker Miroslav Klose.

The result means that Argentina are very likely to qualify for the knockout phase of the competition, as long as they beat Austria or Jordan in one of their remaining group matches.

Now, Barstool Sports have shared a video of Argentina fans inside the Arrowhead Stadium following the win over Algeria.

Supporters can be seen jumping up and down and chanting while filling the majority of the walkways.

Meanwhile, Patrick Mahomes himself responded to Messi scoring three goals in his local stadium.

He simply reacted by posting a single goat emoji on his social media, suggesting that Messi is the GOAT (greatest of all time).

It is hard to argue with such an assessment, given he now only needs one more goal to become the World Cup’s all-time top scorer.
