How hot will the UK be today? Met Office delivers latest forecast as heatwave continues

  • The UK is experiencing a continued heatwave, with record-breaking temperatures including the highest minimum May temperature for a third consecutive day and a provisional all-time hottest meteorological spring temperature of 35C at Kew Gardens.
  • The exceptional late-spring heat is expected to persist for much of the week, with a chance of 'tropical nights' where temperatures do not fall below 20°C in southern England and Wales.
  • Eight locations in southeast England have officially declared a heatwave, and amber heat health alerts have been issued for several regions, warning of significant impacts on health and social care services.
  • The Met Office says heat is set to continue through the week, with highs of 29C forecast for Wednesday, 32C on Thursday, 30C on Friday and 29C on Saturday.
  • By Sunday, the warmest air is expected to have cleared away to the south with temperatures closer, though mostly above, average for the time of year for the whole of the UK.
