Jalen Brunson and Rick Brunson shared the kind of emotional celebration only a father and son could have after the New York Knicks finally ended their 53-year NBA championship drought.

The Knicks beat the San Antonio Spurs 94-90 in Game 5 of the NBA Finals, closing the series on the road and winning their first title since 1973.

For Jalen, the night ended with a championship performance. For Rick, it ended with a front-row view of his son becoming a New York legend.

Jalen Brunson and Rick Brunson cry together after New York Knicks championship

In a clip shared by Dunk Central on X, Jalen and Rick were shown celebrating together after the final buzzer.

The moment was raw. Both were crying as Rick held his son and kissed Jalen on the head, turning the Knicks’ long-awaited championship into a family scene as much as a franchise celebration.

That connection gave the clip its power. Rick is not only Jalen’s father; he is also part of the Knicks’ staff, which meant he lived the title run from both sides of the relationship.

Jalen carried the team on the floor, while Rick watched the work, pressure, and history build toward one final embrace.

Jalen Brunson delivers 45-point Game 5 to end New York Knicks title drought

The celebration matched the size of Brunson’s performance. He scored 45 points in 41 minutes, shooting 14-of-27 from the field, 4-of-7 from three-point range and 13-of-15 at the free-throw line.

He also added three rebounds, three assists and two steals as New York survived a tight Game 5 in San Antonio.

The Knicks needed all of it. The Spurs pushed hard behind Victor Wembanyama, who finished with 19 points and 14 rebounds, but Brunson gave New York the closing force it had waited decades to see.

This title ended a drought that stretched back to 1973, when the Knicks last lifted the NBA championship. Generations of fans had watched the franchise chase a moment like this without getting it.

That is why the Brunson family celebration carried more than personal joy. Jalen delivered an all-time closeout performance, Rick met him with a father’s pride, and New York finally had its championship again.
