Kirk Cousins may have unintentionally revealed the Las Vegas Raiders’ draft plans, with his comments strongly hinting that Fernando Mendoza is already viewed as part of the team.
The 2026 NFL Draft has not yet taken place, but with the Raiders holding the No. 1 overall pick, and Mendoza widely expected to be selected first, Cousins’ words have added a new layer to that expectation.
It did not sound like speculation. Instead, it sounded like certainty.

Kirk Cousins appears to confirm Fernando Mendoza joining Raiders
The comments came in a clip shared via Good Morning Football, where Cousins spoke about the quarterback situation and what lies ahead.
What stood out was how directly he referenced Mendoza, despite the draft still being days away.
He said, “Honestly, I don’t want to start unless I’m the best option. I told Klint the best players should play. As long as that’s the case, I have no qualms with however it plays out.
“I do think Fernando is going to be a great addition to our team.”
The phrasing suggests more than just expectation, pointing toward an outcome that already feels decided within the organization.
Kirk Cousins is ready to mentor Fernando Mendoza after the expected Raiders move
Cousins also made it clear that he is prepared to take on a leadership role if Mendoza does arrive in Las Vegas.
“He’s going to have a great future in the league. I have no problem being a voice in the room to help him to the degree that I can. He’s going to have great support all around him from the coaching staff,” he continued.
Cousins concluded, stating: “Being able to watch a veteran quarterback go through his habits, routines, and process can be a great asset for him.”
The response outlines a scenario where Cousins transitions into a mentor figure, guiding a young quarterback expected to become the franchise’s long-term answer.
All of it points in one direction, even if the official announcement will only come when the draft begins.
