Manny Pacquiao pushed back after Floyd Mayweather claimed their upcoming rematch would only be an exhibition, making it clear he sees it very differently.

The renewed rivalry has quickly become one of boxing’s biggest talking points again, but confusion over the nature of the fight has now taken centre stage. Mayweather’s latest comments have cast doubt over what was previously being presented as a serious return.

Pacquiao, though, did not leave much room for ambiguity. He insisted the agreement they signed was for a proper fight. That disagreement has now become the biggest story around the event.

Manny Pacquiao rejects Floyd Mayweather’s exhibition claim

Speaking in a clip shared by Source of Boxing, Pacquiao responded directly to Mayweather’s stance.

“Is that what he’s feeling? But he signed a real contract. Yes, the contract that we signed is a real fight. I wouldn’t fight an exhibition. … He has to remember that,” Pacquiao said.

Pacquiao’s response was blunt and pointed. From his perspective, this is not a show fight or a nostalgia event, but a legitimate bout with real stakes attached.

That is why Mayweather’s framing has caused such a strong reaction. It suggests both sides are not publicly describing the same deal.

And that has only added more uncertainty around a fight that was already carrying huge attention.

Floyd Mayweather recently said Pacquiao fight would be an exhibition

Mayweather recently said the Pacquiao rematch would be an exhibition, while also suggesting the location was not yet locked in, even though the fight had already been promoted as a major September event.

That stance fits with how he has operated in recent years. Since retiring from professional boxing, Mayweather has largely focused on exhibition bouts rather than sanctioned fights.

Pacquiao’s camp, however, has rejected that position and said the signed agreement is for a professional contest. That conflict has now created real uncertainty around what fans are actually going to get.

For Pacquiao, the issue is simple. He wants the fight treated seriously and counted as a real contest.

Until the terms are clarified publicly, the rematch remains clouded by conflicting messages. Right now, the biggest fight is over what kind of fight it actually is.
