Neymar’s World Cup prospects may already be under threat, and Santos manager Cuca might have just added to these concerns. His latest comments point to a worrying physical limitation.
The Brazilian star recently returned to action, featuring in back-to-back matches against Corinthians and Internacional. However, even that short run has raised concerns about his ability to handle a demanding schedule.
With the World Cup requiring quick turnarounds between games, the situation now looks increasingly delicate. Cuca’s cautious approach suggests Neymar’s fitness is far from reliable.
Cuca raises concerns over Neymar’s physical limits

Speaking at his presentation press conference, Cuca confirmed Neymar will miss Santos’ clash with Cruzeiro in the Brasileirao next Sunday.
“I spoke to Neymar separately. He will be out of Sunday’s game because he played two consecutive matches. We don’t want to risk him suffering an injury. It’s about managing his workload.
“He’ll be out, not to be preserved, but to avoid the risk of injury from playing three games in seven days. We can’t take that risk.”
The explanation is telling. Neymar managed two matches in three days, but a third in the same week is already considered too risky.
World Cup schedule could expose Neymar issue
The timing is significant. At the 2026 World Cup, teams will have around five days between each match.
While that offers slightly more recovery than a domestic week, it is still a demanding rhythm. Players are expected to maintain intensity across multiple games in a short period.
If Neymar cannot safely play three matches in seven days at club level, it raises some doubts about his ability to cope with the World Cup schedule.
However, the 34-year-old superstar still has some months to improve his physical levels.
