Human skeletal remains found in a barrel near Durian Tunggal Dam are confirmed as bones, with police investigating the case as murder

ALOR GAJAH: Police have confirmed that the skeletal remains found in a barrel near the Durian Tunggal Dam reserve area in Machap last Saturday are human bones.

Alor Gajah police chief Supt Ahmad Abu Bakar said the case has been classified as murder and is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

“There are no further developments at this stage. The bones found have been confirmed to be human, and the case is classified under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

“For now, we have yet to determine the victim’s gender, while the post-mortem examination is continuing today,” he said in a statement.

Ahmad said the post-mortem examination had entered its second day to assist investigations, including determining the victim’s gender and identity.

In the incident last Saturday, a blue barrel believed to contain human skeletal remains was discovered by three individuals aged between 25 and 35 while they were fishing at the reservoir at about 11.40 am.
