POLICE have confirmed that skeletal remains found inside a drum near the Durian Tunggal Dam reserve in Machap Baru in Alor Gajah on Sunday are human and are being investigated as a murder case.
Alor Gajah district police chief Superintendent Ahmad Abu Bakar said the confirmation was made following a post-mortem examination.
The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
“Investigations are still ongoing, with the victim’s sex and cause of death yet to be determined.
“Police are still awaiting the results of the post-mortem examination, which is continuing today,” he said.
The examination also found clothing, including fabric, a shirt and trousers, together with the remains.
The drum was found about 15 metres from the road by three anglers aged between 25 and 35 at about 11.40am on Sunday.
Police sought the assistance of the Fire and Rescue Department to move the drum to the roadside before it was taken to hospital for further examination.
Based on the condition of the bones and tissue still attached to them, the remains were believed to have been inside the drum for at least three weeks. - September 14, 2026
