Kota Kinabalu: A 25-year-old man, who voluntarily caused injury to his stepsister, was jailed 12 months.
Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie meted out the sentence to jobless Abdul Habir who pleaded guilty to the charge against him.
Habir had caused hurt to one Marshiela Md Ibrahim at 5pm on July 23, this year in front of a house at Kg Kalansanan, Inanam.
He committed the offence under Section 323 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to one year or a fine, or both, on conviction.
The court ordered Habir to serve the jail sentence from the date of his arrest on July 24 this year.
During mitigation, Habir asked for leniency.
However, Prosecuting Officer Inspector Suzie Kupit urged the court to impose an appropriate sentence.
The court heard that Habir went amok at their house and kicked his stepsister.
Investigation revealed that the incident happened because Habir had problems with his wife at the time.
He had drug-related offences in his records.
