
Kota Kinabalu: A Filipino factory worker was sentenced to 16 months’ jail by the Magistrate’s Court here, Thursday, for having a fake MyPR.
Abdurakman Addari Abbas, 53, pleaded guilty before magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie to having the fake permanent resident document bearing the serial number 671001-65-5277 under the name of Amman Kadir at the Identification Card Division, National Registration Department (NRD) here at 10.30am, on Oct 3.
NRD prosecuting officer Mohd Naser Mohd Nadzeri informed the court that on the said day Abdurakman went to the said Division to make a replacement MyPR card.
Upon checking, both Abdurakman’s thumbprints were not in the Department’s records.
Further checking by the Department found that the serial number of Abdurakman’s MyPR did not exist in the NRD record. Abdurakman was subsequently arrested.
He was charged under Regulation 25 (1) (e) Regulations National Registration 1990 (Amended 2007) provides for a jail term of up to three years or fine or up to RM20,000, or both, on conviction.
Unrepresented, Abdurakman requested fine and told the court that he has a wife and six children.
He was ordered to serve the sentence from the date of his arrest and be referred to the Immigration Department thereafter.
In another case, a former army personnel currently serving jail sentence for keeping various valuables was jailed 23 months.
Mohd Fakrulruzi Hashim, 35, pleaded guilty to keeping a stolen Rolex watch, a clothing bag and a wallet belonging to one Tann Su Fang at 6.30pm on Feb 2, this year at Bundle Mania shop, in ITCC shopping mall, Penampang.
The charge under Section 411 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to five years or fine or both on conviction.
The Magistrate was informed by the prosecution that the items were reported stolen from Tann’s house near here on Jan 24 this year.
Fakrulruzi currently serving jail term on two counts of similar offences.
He was ordered to serve the sentence from the date of his arrest.
