Husband accused of taping his wife to a chair in the basement so he could watch football in peace

A husband in Virginia has been accused of taping his wife to a chair in the basement so he could watch a football game on TV without being interrupted.

Terry Ward, a 64-year-old from Richmond, was arrested after police were called to a home on the night of October 11 for a reported domestic disturbance, local reports say.

Ward’s wife, who police noted had marks around both her arms, told authorities that her husband used tape to tie her to a chair in the basement of their home, according to a criminal complaint obtained by local breaking news outlet Virginia Statewide Incidents.

She told police she believed she was bound to the chair for 30 to 45 minutes.

Her husband allegedly had been watching football upstairs while his wife was tied up in the basement, sources familiar with the incident told Virginia Statewide Incidents.

Ward allegedly admitted “that he did indeed tied his wife…to a chair and place [sic] her down in the basement,” an officer wrote in the criminal complaint.

Ward was charged with abduction and assault on a family member.

His next court appearance is scheduled for November 10.
