Husband stabs wife 13 times to death

A DISPUTE believed to have stemmed from jealousy turned tragic when a woman died after being stabbed 13 times by her husband with a folding knife at their home in Taman Tiram in Kulim last night.

During the incident, the 39-year-old victim sustained seven stab wounds to her chest, five to her abdomen, and one to her right ribcage.

Kulim District Police Chief Superintendent Syamsul Sinring said that the 43-year-old suspect subsequently went to the Lunas Police Station at approximately 8:40 p.m. and informed the duty officer that he had stabbed his wife.

“The suspect also surrendered a folding knife believed to have been used in the incident.

“He was arrested around 9 pm by personnel from the Kulim District Criminal Investigation Division at the Lunas Police Station,” he said  today.

According to him, a preliminary inspection of the single-storey terrace house where the incident occurred revealed that the attack took place in the master bedroom, which was shared by the suspect, the victim, and their three-year-old child.

“The inspection revealed traces believed to be blood on the bedsheet, pillow, headboard, and several items on the bed,” he said.

Syamsul stated that initial investigations suggest the incident stemmed from an argument between the couple regarding jealousy and domestic issues.

“The suspect admitted to stabbing the victim 13 times using a folding knife measuring approximately 20 centimetres.

“After the incident, the suspect had a bath before picking up his child from the babysitter and handing the child over to his sister at the Juru rest area,” he said.

He added that the unemployed suspect informed his sister that he had stabbed his wife before proceeding to the Lunas Police Station to surrender himself.

“The victim was taken to Kulim Hospital by family members and was pronounced dead at 9:30 pm.

“The victim's body was subsequently sent to Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital, Alor Setar, for a post-mortem,” he said.

He stated that a urine test returned negative for drugs, and the suspect had no prior criminal record.

He added that the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder. – September 15, 2026
