Marius Borg Høiby, the son of Norwegian Crown Princess Mette-Marit, has renewed his application for release from detention, shortly after being sentenced to four years in prison on charges including rape, Norwegian media reported on Monday.

He recently made a similar application for release citing his mother's poor state of health, but was unsuccessful.

Mette-Marit suffers from a serious lung disease. According to the royal court, her condition has been deteriorating for months.

Høiby was sentenced by an Oslo court on Monday for 34 criminal offences. He was found guilty of rape in two cases.

Whether he intends to appeal against the verdict was initially unclear.

The Norwegian has been in pre-trial detention since the beginning of February. Shortly before his trial began, he had violated a restraining order against a former girlfriend.
