SEREMBAN – Negeri Sembilan Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun has dismissed claims that he is abandoning the Sikamat State Legislative Assembly (DUN) seat, saying his decision to contest in Linggi is driven by his desire to continue serving the people.
In a Facebook post, Aminuddin said Sikamat was where his political journey as an elected representative began.
"I am not abandoning Sikamat. I have served four terms in Sikamat. From being an opposition assemblyman to becoming Menteri Besar, I remained in Sikamat.
"In 2008, the people of Sikamat gave me their support and that was where my political career began. The residents of Sikamat know the hardships and struggles I went through," he said.
The caretaker Menteri Besar recalled the early days of his political career, when he operated from a small office above a shoplot and faced limited allocations as an opposition lawmaker.
He said he worked alongside supporters and residents to raise funds and organise welfare programmes to assist the local community.
"Our office was above a shoplot. It was modest at first, but things gradually improved. Back then, when opposition allocations were limited, we did everything we could to raise funds to help the people.
"Those who stood by me through the difficult times know how we worked together to raise funds and organise programmes for the community," he said.
Aminuddin also described his relationship with Sikamat residents as one of family, adding that his own family had become deeply attached to the community.
"Every time I return to hold programmes with the people of Sikamat, it feels like coming home. They are all my family. My family is also comfortable with the people of Sikamat.
"My wife and children have grown accustomed to the people of Sikamat. That's how close I am to Sikamat," he said.
He added that he had advised his successor in Sikamat, Nor Azman Mohamad, to continue taking good care of the constituency as he had done throughout his tenure.
Explaining his decision to contest the Linggi seat, Aminuddin stressed that it was his own choice, driven by his aspiration to extend his experience and service to the people there.
"I chose to go to Linggi. I want to serve the people of the Linggi constituency. If God grants me victory, I will work even harder for the people of DUN Linggi," he said.
