MANILA, Philippines — Ateneo head coach Tab Baldwin broke his silence on Friday night, June 12, expressing deep grief over the deaths of Rene Baterbonia, 19, and Divine Adili, 21, and admitting he fell short as a leader.
Baldwin, who led the team’s training camp in Dipaculao, Aurora, had remained silent since news of the tragedy emerged on Monday, when two Ateneo players were confirmed dead.
“I failed as a leader. I felt I had failed as a coach. I certainly felt like I had failed as a friend to Divine and Rene,” he said in a video posted by Ateneo de Manila University.
