KUALA LUMPUR – When the Sessions Court here acquitted and discharged her of three charges of abetting in obtaining RM2.8 million in bribes, today, Datin Seri Zizie Izette Abdul Samad says the person she wished most to have by her side was her late husband, Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin.
Zizie said she imagined her late husband standing beside her when the judge delivered the decision that brought an end to a seven-year-long trial.
"I wish my husband was here with me. I imagined him standing beside me when the decision was announced," the former actress said after the proceedings.
Earlier, Judge Rosli Ahmad acquitted and discharged Zizie, 48, of three charges of abetting her late husband who was the former Kinabatangan MP in obtaining RM2.8 million in bribes related to Public Mutual Berhad unit trust investments, after finding that the defence had successfully raised reasonable doubt against the prosecution’s case.
After the verdict was delivered, Zizie was seen crying uncontrollably before covering her face and being comforted by family members who were present in court.
Zizie said the decision not only brought relief to her but also marked the end of a long chapter she had endured since being charged in 2019.
"Alhamdulillah, I am extremely grateful and thankful for the court’s decision today. I respect the decision made by the judge and would like to thank the court, my legal team, my family and everyone who prayed for and supported me throughout this process," she said.
She added that throughout the seven years of facing the court proceedings, she chose to keep her sadness to herself and did not share the burden she carried with the public.
"Only Allah SWT knows. I am someone who does not like to talk about my life or my privacy.
"Seven years is enough for me to keep these feelings inside. Alhamdulillah, today I feel very relieved," she shared.
Zizie said right now, she only wanted to continue living her life as usual and give her full attention to her family.
"I have a very big responsibility. I have five children whom I need to care for and I am now a single mother.
"Please allow me to live my life as normal," she said.
