Ronda Rousey might have had the eyes of the MMA world on her this past weekend but she’s once again taken credit for leaving WWE superstars in a better place.

Rousey has not been shy in voicing opinions on the WWE since she left and she’s taken numerous digs at both Vince McMahon and certain superstars on the roster.

As we know, Rousey was a huge hit in sports entertainment, with massive matches – including a WrestleMania 35 headliner with Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair – and there is no question she had a big impact on the WWE in general.

Now, back in the headlines after facing and then beating Gina Carano in a Netflix special this past weekend, Rousey is under no illusions as to what her impact has been on the female talent across WWE.

Ronda Rousey takes responsibility for WWE women headlining PLE’s

You don’t get to the top of your craft without having a bit of an ego on you but Rousey seems certain that she is the one responsible for big pay cheques in women’s sport right now.

“I’m very aware that women are headlining WWE because of me,” Rousey said in an interview with The Takedown.

“That women are headlining and making big paydays in boxing because of me. In bare-knuckle boxing, in full-contact karate, in everything that’s a contact sport.

“I’m very, very proud of seeing all the success the women are having, because I was able to prove their commercial viability, and everyone’s trying to recapture that lightning in a bottle.

“I’m so happy to see it. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to fully understand the scope of those ripple effects – nor anybody else – but that’s not why you do it. I’m very, very proud, and it’s very cool to see. I’m glad it’s got to the point that things are so different that people forget how it used to be. I’m not mad at that. I’m proud.”

Rousey a major star but WWE has it’s own trailblazers

There is something in Rousey’s comments here and an element of truth but to try and claim sole responsibility for the great female superstars of WWE now shining is a bit bold.

WWE has had so many immense female talents over the years. Harking all the way back to the Fabulous Moolah and Mae Young, to the attitude era of Lita and Trish Stratus right through to the modern day greats such as Bayley, Becky Lynch, Charlotte Flair and now Rhea Ripley, the WWE’s female roster have always done themselves proud.

Yes, there is an element of Rousey having that superstardom and she did bring more eyes to the WWE.

But since she left, the WWE women’s division has gone from strength to strength and that is simply down to the talent, drive, and success of the current superstars.
