A Malaysian woman who recently went viral for allegedly mocking locals during a trip to China has now issued a public apology.

The apology comes after videos linked to the incident drew heavy backlash online, with many netizens criticising the remarks made during the trip and saying that such behaviour reflected poorly on Malaysians travelling abroad.

Apologised over viral China trip incident

In a statement uploaded to her TikTok account, the woman, who identified herself as Nur Asyiqin binti Mohd Dalil, said she wished to sincerely apologise over the viral issue involving her reaction while holidaying in China on 15 June 2026.

She described the incident as a “spontaneous reaction” and said she understood that her actions had caused discomfort to others.

“I understand and take full responsibility for my actions which have caused discomfort to any party,” she wrote in the statement.

Said she never meant to offend anyone

Nur Asyiqin also said she respected the views, criticism, and feelings of everyone who had spoken up about the issue.

According to her, she never intended to offend, embarrass, or create conflict with anyone.

She explained that her reaction at the time was not planned, adding that she accepts every piece of criticism with an open heart.

I respect the views, advice and feelings of all parties, and never intended to offend, embarrass or cause any conflict,” she said.

‘I regret my actions’

In the same statement, she admitted that she regretted her behaviour and acknowledged that her actions had gone too far.

She added that the incident would serve as a lesson for her to be more careful in the future, especially when it comes to public sensitivities.

From this incident, I will be more careful in every action I take and be more sensitive towards the sensitivities of the public,” she said.

Nur Asyiqin ended the statement by apologising once again to everyone affected and said she hoped the matter could be resolved properly.

She also promised to take the experience as a lesson to become a more mature and responsible person moving forward.

Earlier backlash over alleged remarks

The controversy first began after clips allegedly showing a Malaysian tourist making remarks about locals in China circulated online.

The videos sparked criticism from netizens, many of whom felt that the comments were disrespectful and unnecessary, especially as they were allegedly made while travelling overseas.

At the time of writing, her apology has continued to draw mixed reactions online, with some accepting her apology while others felt that travellers should be more aware of how their actions can affect Malaysia’s image abroad.
