Wong Chen resigns as Subang MP, leaves PKR over reform concerns
SUBANG JAYA: Former Subang MP Wong Chen said he resigned from PKR and the government because he could no longer pursue reforms and defend democracy from within.
Wong said his decision was driven by the second part of the oath taken by MPs — to defend the Federal Constitution and democracy in Malaysia.

“I have done my job as a diligent MP. Now I have to do the second part, which is to defend democracy and pursue reforms,” he said at a press conference today.
Wong said he had become increasingly concerned about legislation introduced by the government in recent months, which he described as not being reform-driven.
He also criticised the government’s handling of several issues, including calls for a Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) into allegations involving former Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki and what he described as a “corporate mafia”.
Wong said some PKR MPs had been vocal in disagreeing with government policies but were ultimately constrained by the need to maintain stability within the administration.
He said his decision to join Parti Bersama Malaysia (Bersama) was also aimed at giving voters an alternative ahead of the next general election.
Wong also cited his removal as chairman of Malaysia Debt Ventures Bhd (MDV) as a personal turning point.
He said he was removed after three years despite turning around the company’s financial performance and had not been given an explanation for the decision.
Wong said he had yet to receive an explanation from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who is also Finance Minister, over his removal.
Wong also said access to the MyKhas constituency funding portal had been revoked, affecting the work of his office.
“By blocking that, you hurt my people. You don’t really hurt me.
“You basically take away my powers as the Member of Parliament in charge of the funds for my community,” he said.
Wong said no replacement had been appointed to oversee Subang following his resignation.
He said he handed his resignation letter to PKR on Tuesday morning.
He also resigned as Subang MP last Monday, with his resignation taking effect at 5pm.
Wong was first elected as the Subang MP in the 2013 general election and retained the seat in the 2018 and 2022 general elections.
