Aston Villa boss Dean Smith is delighted to get their season underway with victory over Everton last night.
Villa won 2-0 on the night.
Smith said, "It was about getting the three points getting something on the board in the Premier League.
"I have said before, there were two teams that finished above us in the Championship last season. But we seem to be a more established Premier League team.
"I can see that because of the amount of money we spent but we had to.
"We are fortunate with the owners we've got and we felt we spent well. But it will take time for us to compete with some of the established teams in this league."
