- The BBC has opted to drop Andrew Castle from his role as lead commentator after this year’s Wimbledon.
- Castle, 62, who was the former British No 1 as a player, has been at the forefront of the BBC’s coverage since 2003.
- However, after 23 years in the role, Castle has been axed, with this summer’s tournament being his final swansong.
- Castle confirmed the news in an interview with The Times, while calling his role “the best gig in broadcasting”.
- Castle has been on hand to call some of Wimbledon’s most famous moments in the 21st century, including Andy Murray’s two triumphs in 2013 and 2016.
