The stage came alive as young performers explored human loneliness and fractured identity, offering audiences a thought-provoking and emotionally engaging theatrical experience as the three-day run of the play Beyond the Imagination began at Dada Lakhmi Chand State University of Performing and Visual Arts on Tuesday.
Two shows were staged on the opening day, with artists bringing the crisis of human identity to life against the backdrop of the pressures and pace of modern life. One more show of Beyond the Imagination will be presented on Wednesday, followed by two shows on Thursday. Venture capitalist and AVPL International founder-chairman Deep Sisay and Chaupal app Haryana head Vinay Lather attended the event as guests. They were accorded a traditional Haryanvi welcome on their arrival at the university.
The play was staged by students of the Acting Department of the Film and Television Faculty at the Mini Auditorium. The acclaimed Marathi play, written by noted playwright and litterateur Mahesh Elkunchwar, is based on the theme of self-reflection.
The production effectively portrays individual identity, loneliness, inner conflict and mental fragmentation in metropolitan life. Bharati, Prince and Pushkar, fourth-semester Acting students, played the lead roles. The play was directed by NSD graduate Sushil Kant, while Bipin Gobale handled the production design. Former NSD student Pali Fukon designed the costumes. The Hindi translation was done by Vasant Dev, while Deepa Verma managed the sound design.
“Entry for the general public was free during the staging of Beyond the Imagination. Theatre lovers, art enthusiasts and visitors appreciated the students for their vibrant and compelling performance,” a university official said. He said a special set was created on the Mini Auditorium stage to provide audiences with an immersive theatre experience. An expert team from outside the university conducted extensive rehearsals with the student actors before the opening performance. The remaining shows of Beyond the Imagination will be staged on the evenings of June 10 and 11, he added.
