A student of Dada Lakhmi Chand State University of Performing and Visual Arts has been selected by the Ministry of Rural Development for a summer internship. The selected student, Manya, is currently studying in the fourth semester of the Textile Design Department under the Faculty of Design. The summer internship will begin on June 1.

Anil Kumar, Head of the Textile Design Department at the university, said that Manya’s selection for the summer internship is a matter of pride for the university family.

“This internship is considered highly prestigious. Manya’s selection came after a rigorous process that included resume screening, portfolio evaluation, shortlisting and interviews. During the internship, she will work under a special programme focused on traditional craft development and rural livelihood initiatives with Pipilika Women’s Handicrafts,” he added.

He said that the internship will specifically focus on the renowned Pipili craftsmanship of Odisha and work towards strengthening the relationship between traditional handicrafts and contemporary design practices. During the internship, Manya will contribute in the areas of design intervention, skill exchange, product development, documentation, and research, he added.

Vice-Chancellor Dr Amit Arya said the initiative by the Ministry of Rural Development aims to empower rural artisans through schemes such as the National Rural Livelihood Mission and the Deen Dayal Antyodaya Yojana.

“Through summer internships, young people integrate their creative talents into ongoing rural development programmes. The university’s students are continuously bringing laurels to the university and the state. Whenever a student progresses in this way, it brings immense joy to their faculty and family while also inspiring other students,” Dr Arya added.
