KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM) Women Engineers Section hosted a leadership talk titled “The Transformative Leader’s Playbook: Navigating Change with Impact” at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC), here, recently.

The session featured Dagang Nexchange Berhad Chairman Tan Sri Syed Zainal Abidin Syed Mohamed Tahir, a corporate figure with decades of experience in the oil, gas and energy sectors.

He shared strategies on how leaders can embrace transformation, adapt to rapid changes and guide organisations with resilience and clarity.

“Leadership is less about position and more about the impact you create,” he said, stressing the importance of influence and adaptability in leading teams through uncertainty.

A total of 60 participants comprising engineers, academicians, professionals and students attended the event.

IEM Sabah Chairman Datuk Mohd Yaakob Jaafar said the need to nurture transformative leaders within the engineering profession to address evolving industry and societal challenges.

The event was also attended by representatives from academia, government agencies and the private sector, reflecting strong support for leadership development in the field of engineering.

A token of appreciation was presented to Syed Zainal Abidin by IEM Sabah leadership at the close of the session, followed by a networking opportunity for participants and invited guests.

IEM Sabah said the programme underscored the Women Engineers Section’s role in promoting leadership, diversity and professional growth within the engineering community.
