With the Mid Autumn Festival approaching, many families are preparing to gather around the table, eat mooncakes and spend time with their loved ones.
But for Aapple Wong, the mother of 16-year-old Yap Shing Xuen, this year’s celebration carries a very different meaning.
Made her daughter’s favourite mooncakes
In an emotional Facebook post earlier today, Wong shared photos showing her making mooncakes from scratch, including several shaped-like rabbits and flowers.
She revealed that mooncakes were among her daughter’s favourite treats, adding that she had been too busy to make them for Yap last year before finally finding the time to do so this year.
Only this time, I’ll never get to wait for you to run over and ask Mummy, ‘Mummy, can I eat it now?’”
Wong went on to express how much she wished her daughter could still be by her side as the Mid Autumn Festival is traditionally a time to look forward to being reunited with family.
“Mid Autumn Festival is almost here. Others look forward to reunion, but Mummy only hopes to see you one more time.”
She ended the message by telling Yap that she had kept one of the mooncakes for her.
Wong also wished everyone a happy Mid Autumn Festival and urged people to cherish those who are still around them, as well as every opportunity they have to spend time together.
AGC has filed an appeal
Yap was fatally stabbed at SMK Bandar Utama Damansara (4) on Oct 14, 2025. Last week, the teen accused of the murder was acquitted on grounds of insanity by the Shah Alam High Court.
Following the decision, Wong publicly called for the Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC) to appeal the ruling and supported a petition urging the case to be brought before the Court of Appeal.
The AGC subsequently filed its notice of appeal on Sept 22, meaning the High Court’s decision will now be challenged at the Court of Appeal.
