IN response to the escalating war in the Middle East, the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) have intensified security operations across the country, focusing on borders, key infrastructure, and sites considered potentially vulnerable to attacks.
Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail said he has instructed all state police chiefs and PDRM department directors to boost monitoring and security measures following recent geopolitical developments involving Iran, the United States, and Israel.
“The increased security deployment also involves close monitoring of American and European interests and assets in the country, as well as places of worship that may be targeted by certain parties,” he told reporters at Bukit Aman on Friday.
Mohd Khalid explained that police regularly convene meetings under the National Security Council (Majlis Keselamatan Negara) to review the latest developments and assess potential risks.
“For everyone’s awareness, there are approximately 2,500 Iranian nationals residing in Malaysia. We continuously monitor their activities to ensure public safety remains well-maintained and under control,” he said.
The Inspector-General emphasised that these heightened measures reflect PDRM’s commitment to maintaining public order and safeguarding Malaysia from potential external threats.
“These ongoing security and monitoring efforts are part of our dedication to guarantee peace and security in Malaysia while ensuring the nation remains protected from any unwanted foreign threats,” he added.
Officials noted that global tensions are intensifying as military operations, diplomatic friction, and humanitarian concerns increase in regions affected by the Iran–U.S.–Israel conflict, prompting authorities worldwide to reassess security readiness. - March 6, 2026
